Manu who was born in Pune, India, moved to St. Maarten in 1983 and founded Caribbean Gems in the same year. Neelam was visiting her family in St. Maarten, also in 1983 and when Manu met her, it was love at first sight! Amazingly, they both lived on the same street back in India, but only met in St. Maarten! They were married in 1984 and together they have guided this company from a small souvenir/jewelry store to the fine upscale establishment that it is today. They have three beautiful children, Ahasan, Rikita and Krish, who you may find helping at the store many times. Neelam spent long days in the store in the early years, but lately tries to spend more time at home with the kids. She does make it a point to come to the store almost everyday, but is generally in the office more than on the sales floor. Neelam loves swimming, baking and traveling. Manu loves computers, cooking and considers himself a Jack of all trades (but a master of none. He will tinker with anything that does not work. You will also find him in the kitchen at home, especially on the weekends.
